Los Angeles Structured Cabling Estimate Checklist

The information facility and IT teams should gather for clearer copper, fiber, rack, pathway, testing, and labeling estimates.

Count endpoints by system and location

Separate workstation, phone, camera, access point, printer, access-control, AV, and spare drops. Mark each endpoint on a floor plan when possible. Counts alone do not show route length, ceiling conditions, or room-to-room pathways.

Identify cable and performance requirements

Document Cat6, Cat6A, multimode fiber, single-mode fiber, indoor, outdoor, riser, plenum, armored, or other requirements. If the standard is not known, describe the applications, distances, environment, and expected service life so options can be reviewed.

  • Endpoint schedule
  • Cable category or application requirement
  • Estimated route lengths
  • Patch-panel and rack requirements
  • Testing and certification level
  • Labeling and as-built format

Show the telecom-room condition

Provide photos of racks, cabinets, backboards, patch panels, grounding, power, existing pathways, and available space. Note whether active equipment must remain online and whether cutover work needs an outage window.

Ask for assumptions and exclusions in writing

A useful estimate identifies included materials and labor, access assumptions, testing, patching or firestopping responsibilities, lift or permit allowances, working hours, exclusions, and the process for changed conditions.
